Citi Tenant Alert! -- Do not sign W-9 forms!
Has your building been purchased by CitiApartments/Skyline Realty? You may have already received their notorious House Rules, which ask you to pay additional late fees, surrender personal details, and otherwise change the terms of your tenancy. And now you may have received a new document, a W-9 form, that they would like you to sign. These W-9 forms are totally bogus and without precedent. They are a ploy to obtain personal information and your Social Security number, under the outrageous pretense of getting you to pay taxes on your security deposit interest payments. There is NO LEGAL BASIS for the W-9 forms. DO NOT SIGN THEM!
Skyline may try to turn your building into a hotel for business travellers!
Citistop organizers have identified a pattern of Skyline buildings being turned into corporate hotel suites. Skyline has bought out tenants in downtown buildings, applied for permits under the innocuous pretense of doing repairs, converted units into luxury suites, and moved in temporary business travellers. This is illegal! It is against the law to offer rental housing for tourist use. This pattern of hotel-ization has been identified by the City Attorneys lawsuit, but we have reason to believe that Skyline is still actively converting units. If you think they are doing illegal hotel conversions in your building, please contact us immediately! Dont let Skyline turn our affordable rental housing into luxury hotels for itinerant business travellers!
The Skyline-owned Diva Hotel, near Union Square , was once an apartment building that was slowly converted to be a tourist hotel. Citistop held a picket outside the Hotel Diva on August 5th to draw attention to hotel-ization.
City Attorneys office files massive civil lawsuit against Skyline/CitiApartments!

Dennis Herrera filed suit Wednesday August 16th against Skyline Realty/CitiApartments
for illegally evicting tenants, threatening them, and illegally converting
units to hotel suites. The City Attorney charges CitiApartments with using
intimidation, harassment, manipulation,and building neglect to force tenants
out or convince them to accept buyout offers. The suit also details how
CitiApartments henchmen, like Andrew Hawkins, target tenants who are especially
vulnerable, such as the elderly, the disabled, and people with limited
English. If you are a CitiApartments tenants and have experienced any
of these abuses, or any other illegal behavior, please contact the City
Attorney immediately at 554-4700.
CitiApartments and Skyline Realty are just two names for a large landlord and realty company controlled by the Lembi family, with at least 7,000 San Francisco tenants. Many landlords are involved in the sketchy practice of clearing buildings of tenants under rent control, but the Lembi's take it to a new level. They use intimidation, confusion, barracks like house rules, and invalid pretext evictions to systematically clear buildings, among many other sketchy business practices.
